MOND:SEE, a trip into the beauty of nature and time through layers of both imagination and space. Mondsee (Moonlake) is a lake and town in Upper Austria close to where I grew up. The southern shore of this deep blue lake is framed by the famous Drachenwand (Dragonwall) formation- an impressive work of nature that soars in height and stature. This place has always fascinated me even as a little child. The aesthetics and energy of Mondsee are expressed in this show through my work in resin. As I look at the pieces, it reminds me of wandering through the forest covered in a thin blanket of mist as dawn breaks. The woods are lovely and deep, revealing shadows of plants in the distance inviting you further in. And then I see the lake – the moonlight is dispersed on its surface and it looks like the stars have immersed themselves into the water. Their gentle glow lights the scenery and it mystifies me, much like the medium I have chosen for this work. Even in the midst of the most spellbound settings it is still up to me what I allow myself to see and what I am willing to share? Am I ready to gaze through the intricate opaque surfaces? Do I want to see the delicate, refined patterns that are deeply embedded in me and the nature that is around? How much do I hide unconsciously and how much do I show deliberately? This work is all about what is concealed or not. How much does one layer expose or cover up. It is this intriguing game of giving and taking, of the push and pull to create the perfect tension. Always aware of being intertwined with whatever surrounds me I wanted to create an experience that is bold, fragrant, lush and intriguing.
